2010 Oakleigh Plate – Early Preview

February 5th, 2010

Taking place at the coveted Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday February 20, the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate is one of an incredible seven Group status races conducted on Blue Diamond Stakes Day.

The Arrowfield Blue Diamond Stakes Day is one of three great race days that make up the always memorable Caulfield Festival of Racing.

The $1million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) is the headline act of the day, but with $350 000 in prizemoney the Oakleigh Plate, a 1100m open handicap, will be attracting plenty of attention with punters keen to bet on the next Group 1 winner at the Melbourne autumn racing carnival.

Classy filly Avenue, trained by Peter Moody, is a possible Oakleigh Plate contender for 2010 but her nomination into the testing Group 1 sprint relies on her performance in the Group 3 Rubiton on January 6.

Moody is also looking at the Oakleigh Plate for his three-year-old colt Wanted who narrowly missed out on a Group 1 victory in the Lightning Stakes on January 30 when he placed second to Nicconi.

With a number of other group features still to play out at Melbourne over the next couple of weeks, the star autumn horses will begin to emerge and Oakleigh Plate contenders will be made clear.
