Final Field Released – 2011 Oakleigh Plate

February 23rd, 2011

The 2011 Oakleigh Plate is ready to take place this Saturday February 26, 2011, and the barrier draw and final field has been released today.

The acceptances show a full 18 horse field will contend the 2011 Oakleigh Plates, including Danny O’Brien’s Star Witness.

The 2011 Oakleigh Plate is due to run as Race 6 on Blue Diamond Stakes Day at Caulfield Racecourse, jumping at 3.50pm (AEDST).

Worth $400,000 in prize money, the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate will be run over 1,100 metres.

Betting information and odds will be available closer to the race day at Luxbet.

Star Witness has drawn barrier 10 in the 2011 Oakleigh Plate and has been allocated 56 kilograms.

The three-year-old Starcaft colt has won four of his nine starts and has accrued more than $1 million in prize money.

Trainer Peter Moody will be represented five times in the 2011 Oakleigh Plates, with Reward For Effort, Avenue, Set For Fame, Hinchinbrook and Panipique all accepting for the race.

Moody will be looking to clean sweep this year’s race, using his two biggest threats – Avenue and Reward For Effort- to try and win the 2011 Oakleigh Plate.

Reward For Effort will be attempting to get his head in the game after reports he is currently more interested in being a stallion than racing.

The stallion’s part-owner Bill Mumford believes that his horse’s performance in the 2011 Oakleigh Plate will determine whether or not Reward For Effort will continue racing at Group level or will be retired to stud.

“I think that’s what he needs now, he’s been a bit bully. (Peter Moody’s) going to put blinkers on him and with (jockey Shane Scriven) keeping his mind on the job, we’re hoping he can crack it for another Group 1,” said Mr Mumford.

“If he doesn’t fire this time we’ll think seriously about retiring him to stud because his mind’s just not on the job.”

Reward for effort has drawn barrier 12 for the 2011 Oakleigh Plate and will be ridden by jockey Shane Scriven.

Avenue has drawn next to her stablemate in barrier 11 and will have Luke Nolen on-board.

Also confirmed as starters in the 2011 Oakleigh Plate are Chris Waller’s Shellscrape (7), Mark Kavanagh’s Catapulted (8) and Tony Noonan’s Verenna Miss (14).
