2015 Oakleigh Plate Still on the Agenda for Girl

January 15th, 2015

Forced to withdraw from the Magic Millions meeting on the Gold Coast over the weekend with a minor foot ailment, trainer Danny Bougoure has revealed classy three-year-old Oakleigh Girl is on track for an appearance in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield Racecourse on February 28th.

Securing two wins and one minor place over her six competitive appearances on course so far, Oakleigh Girl has not been seen at the races since finishing a credible fifth amongst classy competition in the Group 3 Royal Randwick Stakes (1200m) on Day 2 of The Championships last year.

Reportedly bruising her hoof in training in the lead-up to the Magic Millions, Bougoure told Sky Racing HQ the three-year-old has overcome all issues and it is all systems go towards the 2015 Oakleigh Plate.

“She has been back at the track doing plenty of work and she comes to hand pretty quickly,” he said.

“It will be all systems go for her.

“She will definitely have a run and I will probably fine tune the program for her tomorrow after she does a bit of fast work and see which way we head with her.

“She had a bruised hoof and it wasn’t much and she just missed seven to ten days work.

“We probably could have got her back to the Magic Millions, but instead of doing that we thought we would give her a couple of weeks in the paddock and really get her right for Melbourne.”

Yet to settle on a tune-up event for the Snitzel filly in the lead-up, Bougoure said she will transported to Melbourne to allow ample time to adapt to the Victoria way of going.

“She will probably go in about three weeks,” he added.

Stamping her claims as one to watch from her maiden racing campaign over the 2013/14 summer, Oakleigh Girl charged home to win the Listed 7 News Stakes (1000m) on debut before repeating the dose in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1010m) on December 14th.

Unlucky to be blocked for a run late when fourth in the Group 3 McLachlan Stakes (1200m) on December 28th, Oakleigh Girl almost responded in the best way possible when charging home to finish a close second to Unencumbered in the Magic Millions 2.y.o. Guineas (1200m) on the Gold Coast on January 11th.
