2015 Oakleigh Plate Likely for Fast ‘N’ Rocking

January 30th, 2015

Securing several impressive results over the 2014 Spring Carnival, trainer David Hayes has revealed Fast ‘N’ Rocking will likely be set for the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 28th upon returning to racing this season.

Completing an impressive barrier trial and Cranbourne on Thursday, Fast ‘N’ Rocking was settle towards the rear of the field, receiving a good run in transit and pushing forward throughout before maintaining a good tempo down the final straight and over the line.

Pleased with the way the son of Fastnet Rock has taken to his time in the paddock and subsequent return to work, Hayes told Racing Victoria the 2015 Oakleigh Plate appears the best major target early in the four-year-old’s autumn campaign, with a decision on progression to be made pending form and results.

“Fast ‘N’ Rocking could have won the trial by more if we let him go and he’s just a changed horse since we gelded him,” Hayes said.

“We’re leaning to the Oakleigh Plate (over the Newmarket Handicap) because he’s got a disliking for the straight and we might look at the William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley for him as well.”

Claiming four wins and as many minor places from his 22 competitive appearances on course so far, Fast ‘N’ Rocking was unable to make much of an impact when seventh in the Listed Superracing Stakes (1000m) on debut in late 2012, leading to his immediate return to the paddock.

Placing fourth in each of the Blue Diamond lead-in events upon returning in 2013, Fast ‘N’ Rocking ran a close second to Miracles Of Life in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m); progressing to fifth place finishes in each of the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m).

Unable to make much of an impact over the 2013 spring and 2014 autumn, the gelding out of For The Good Times won a minor over 1100m upon returning last spring; progressing to a fourth place finish in the Listed ITalkTravel Stakes (1200m) and victory in the Triforce Handicap (1200m) and was last seen beating a talented field to the line in the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) at Sandown on November 15th.
