20 sprinters were nominated for the $400,000 race on Monday morning, headlined by Jason Warren’s Bel Sprinter.

The seven-year-old gelding is a winner at the highest level of racing after winning The Galaxy (1100m) back in March 2013 after which he placed in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) two weeks later.

However after these two successes, Bel Sprinter failed to place in any of his nine starts, eight of which were at Group One level. The gelding also failed to defend his title in The Galaxy last year, finishing eighth after badly missing the start.

He returned to the winner’s circle first-up in the spring, dead heating with Miracles Of Life in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m) on October 18, but ran unplaced his next two times out.

Peter Moody leads the nominations with three potential runners – A Time For Julia, Flamberge, and Peron.

Five-year-old mare A Time For Julia has placed in ten of her 16 career starts, including finishing runner-up in both the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) during the spring, however she ran unplaced in her last two starts of the season, which included finishing third last in the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Charity Cup (1400m).

Five-year-old gelding Flamberge won the Group 2 Theshark.com.au Stakes (1100m) first-up in the spring but ran unplaced in all four of his next starts before finishing his campaign with a minor placing in the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m).

Flamberge resumed in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) on February 14 following three months in the spelling paddock, running second to speedy Chautauqua. It was a very good first-up run for the gelding, who managed to finish just a head behind Chautauqua.

Moody’s final nominee for the 2015 Oakleigh Plate is Peron, who hasn’t been seen since the Brisbane Winter Carnival last June.

Robert Smerdon could deliver a dual-pronged attack on the race after nominating both Shamal Wind and Under The Louvre. Five-year-old mare Shamal Wind had run third in all four of her last starts during the spring but broke through to the winner’s circle on resumption in the Listed WJ Adams Stakes (1000m) at Sandown on January 26.

Four-year-old Under The Louvre has placed in all five of his past starts and was last seen running second in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) in October.

Other Oakleigh Plate nominations include Rubiton Stakes third Atmospherical, John O’Shea’s Earthquake, Kevin Heffernan Stakes winner Fast ‘N’ Rocking, Listed Abell Stakes (1200m) winner It Is Written, and Group 3 GH Mumm Stakes (1100m) winner Vain Queen.
