Securing a commendable race record of five wins and three minor places over 14 competitive starts to date, Lord Of The Sky jumped well in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) last time out on January 17th, but was unlucky to be blocked for a run in the final straight and seventh.

Thrilled with the performance produced by the Danerich entire in his Monday hit-out, trainer Robbie Laing told Racing Victoria he is confident of the conditions of the 2015 Oakleigh Plate will play directly into Lord Of The Sky’s strengths on Saturday.

“He had the handbrake on the whole way around today and he could have won by 12 if he wanted to,” Laing said.

“The thing that made me really happy was how easily he did it, the jockey never moved on him.

“As soon as he’d established a two-length lead he grabbed hold of him and he came to the corner with his ears pricked, four or five in front under a firm grip and he just kept extending the margin.

“Over the summer in every race he was being asked to carry big weights so we thought we’d go up in class and down in weight at his favourite track with freshness on his side.

“He’s won five races and every one has been at Caulfield.”

A standout performer over the 2014 winter, Lord Of The Sky won both the Listen Learn Speak Handicap (1000m) and Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) before placing fourth in each of the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) and United Refrigeration Handicap (1000m).

Placing fourth in the Listed Christmas Cup (1000m) upon resuming in summer, the stallion out of Princess Abassi ran second in each of the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m) leading into the Manifold Stakes.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2015 Oakleigh Plate is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
